PROJECT 2 (GROUP)

Structure and Body: Materials, Anthropometric and Ergonomic Exploration1: 1 Bamboo Activity Structure

In groups, we must create a 1:1 framework for a particular action for Project 2. To make the structure useful, it will be installed in an actual vacant green space. We will be working with bamboo, thus it is necessary that we comprehend its nature and qualities in addition to demonstrate a preliminary understanding of construction. With various supporting elements (rope, steel, tensile fabric), we will examine building features such as joints, joinery, and structural quality.

We must explore architectural elements and principles (acquired from Project 1) as we create our design through a series of workshops, testing, and investigations using scaled study models, as well as include anthropometry and ergonomics into our 1:1 construction.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Introduces anthropometry, ergonomics, and their relationship to form and space, as well as to raise awareness of them.

  2. Establish fundamental concepts of structure, design theories, and architectural terminology as they relate to space and form arrangement.

  3. Develop a structure installation and get an understanding of the material, space quality, human size, and articulation form.

PROJECT BRIEF

TASKS

STUDY ON MATERIAL AND STRUCTURE

  • Discover, investigate, and comprehend the properties of materials

  • Attend the technical workshop and demonstration by the bamboo expert.

  • Main Material: Bamboo.

  • Supporting Materials: Rope, Steel, or Tensile Fabric.

STUDY ON ANTROPOMETRICS AND ERGONOMICS

  • Discover, investigate, and comprehend the properties of materials

  • Attend the technical workshop and demonstration by the bamboo expert.

  • Main Material: Bamboo.

  • Supporting Materials: Rope, Steel, or Tensile Fabric.

BAMBOO RESEARCH

We had the chance to experience anthropometry and ergonomics by using our seniors' bamboo project and our lecturer stated the advantages and disadvantages of each structures.

DESIGN INTENTION (FROM PROJECT 1 )

Integrate the elements and principles we learnt from Project 1 into the design objective of our 1:1 framework.

IDEA EXPLORATION, TEST MODELS AND PROTOTYPES

Through scaled study models and prototypes, we may develop our design concepts while investigating architectural principles and aspects using anthropometry and ergonomics.

MOCK-UP MODELS

We calculated the technical measurements that can be a base for our structures and discussed with the head of Kebun Komuniti USJ2

We had few discussions regarding the structures and bamboo techniques so that we don't make mistakes when using the bamboos.

. BUILDING BAMBOO STRUCTURE

  • Equipment and construction sequence preparation.

  • Site management.

  • Building a 1:1 bamboo structure out of transportable components that may be put together in a green, dormant area

DRAWING AND FINAL MODEL ASSEMBLY

  • Execution of 1:1 Structure and scaled final models.

  • Execution of Orthographic Drawings and presentation board composition

Started from the base, structures and roof, our structures completed in campus and dissembled to be transferred to the site location to assemble the whole structures again as a final step in this project.

DESIGN PROCESS SKETCH JOURNAL

Since the group members were randomly selected I initially believed it would be difficult for me to speak with them. But I believe that my outgoing personality made it easier for me to interact with them, and they also created a welcoming environment. We faced a few challenges with our structures, but we were able to resolve them. Due to everyone's understanding of the project's objectives and guidelines, we worked along quite successfully.

MODULE ASSESSMENTS

REFLECTION

tgc-PhotoRoom.png

Along with Marc and Yaorong, I am one of the student representatives, and I have helped my team members obey our leader's directions. I carefully followed every instruction that our leader gave us, completing each task quickly and accurately so that we could go on to the next.y group leader split the work equally so that the final product would be neat. The model was completed in a couple of days, proving that collaboration can speed up project completion.

TUTOR

I've learnt from working on this project that it's important to consider other people's perspectives, regardless of their age, as their comments can help us make our structures better. Additionally, we paid close attention to what the Kebun Komuniti USJ2 leader wanted us to achieve based on the site's location and environmental factors using aspects and concepts.
