PROJECT 2 (INDIVIDUAL)

SPATIUM

In this assignment, Students will learn about the calculations and drawing standards used in the construction industry through this project. The complexity of drawing convention and skills will be examined and understood by the students as they put them into practice as a form of communication. The objective of this assignment is for students to learn translating three-dimensional spaces into two-dimensional orthographic drawings with suitable instruments, the right finishing of drawing and graphical techniques where students must express dimensional space and/or objects using the appropriate scale, fundamental concepts, convention, and techniques.

NOTES AND SKETCHES

SPACE SELECTION

Using the fundamental drawing conventions employed in the construction industry, students are required to create a set of scaled drawings of a room in their own home (personal space—bedroom or study area) with the present furniture arrangement.

MEASUREMENT

The students will have to choose and measure a personal space in their home.
space (a bedroom or a study) with the current furniture arrangement, and then convert the measurements, applying the appropriate drawing conventions, such as line weight, line type, symbol, scale, and etc. If there is a continuation in any section of the space, the measurement must be 500 mm longer than necessary, with the appropriate break lines.

SCALE

  • The chosen scale must be one of the standard scales, such as 1:5, 1:10, 1:25, 1:50, 1:100, and so on.

  • Based on the dimensions of the chosen room and furniture, the students are to choose the appropriate scale.

DRAWINGS

Using the fundamental drawing conventions employed in the construction industry, students are required to create a set of scaled drawings of a room in their own home (personal space—bedroom or study area) with the present furniture arrangement.

1 Floor plan (complete with furniture)
2. 2 internal elevations (longitudinal and horizontal)
3. 1 section
4. 1 set of detailed drawings of a loose furniture: plan, elevations, sections and one zoom in details.

TITLE BLOCK

Each page must include a title block in the following format:

  • Provides title for each drawings on each a4 size paper and it shall be manually hand drawn using the appropriate tools, it should be hand sketched to scale.

  • You can first sketch with a pencil before inking it with a felt-tip pen.

  • All final sketches must be carefully inked.

HANDWRITING

Compulsory to use architecture lettering and it shall be neat and tidy.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Students are requested to upload photos of the area, primarily to document how the furniture is arranged. Photos of the area must be included with the submission.

  • Students must safeguard their hardcopies in case they need to turn them in at a later date.

SUBMISSION PDF

List of things that should be submitted together with the drawings.

  1. Pictures of the space

  2. Floor Plan

  3. Longitudinal Internal Elevation

  4. Horizontal Internal Elevation

  5. Section

  6. Loose Furniture details

  7. Pictures of the space

OUTCOME

SPACES APPROVAL

SPACES

I proposed pictures of my college dorm and send it to my lecturer to get approval. He mentioned that he is fine with the spaces since I could not go to my house to measure bedroom so I used my dorm spaces as the selected space.

DRAWINGS

unnamed (15).jpg

I did a wrong scale for the floor plan which I should have used 1:50 instead of 1:20 so I had to redo the floor plan basend on the sclae suggested by my lecturer.

IMG-7843.jpg

This is the new floor plan based on 1:50 scale that I redid with correct measurements. I did measure everything in my dorm room to get the accurate measurements.

My lecturer commented that the floor plan is correct but I have to add the gridlines, elevations and section line to complete it.

FINAL OUTCOMES

Finally, after receiving feedbacks and comments from my lecturer, I inked every drawings with different types of line weights to show the small details.

REFLECTION

tgc-PhotoRoom.png

From the first progress, I learned that I should recognize which scale to use which I should have used 1:50 instead of 1:20. This is to avoid any wrong measurements and for the drawings to fit in the title block, plus producing nice drawings.

I got to communicate well with my lecturer and he is also the reason I feel comfortable to give my opinion and easily taking his feedbacks for me to improve. He gave his best to make sure I understood every techniques in technical drawing since this is new to me compared to other students.

tgc-PhotoRoom.png

It takes time to finish all drawings so I had to arrange my time properly to upload the best progress since my tutorial class once a week so I had to appreciate every minutes and hours of the class. I could apply the theories in practical which based on the lecture slides that my lecturer gave to the students.
